Wisdom is an integral part of a Mages psyche and every mage struggles to find his own path to wisdom (and thus ascension). Whenever a mage performs an act that is against his wisdom, the mage must make a Resolve + Composure roll. Failure means the mage has lost one point of wisdom.

Each Path is a step towards Ascension for the character and leads the mage into conflict with other mages who seek ascension. Wisdom isn't just a measure of morality according to the mages paradigm, but also a way for the mage to act and influence his surroundings. A mage's Path isn't always the same and traumatic or life changing events may alter the path and add or remove sins.

Designing the Path to Wisdom

When a mage formalizes his paradigm, he also formalizes his own path to wisdom. When creating a mage, the player also design the Path of Wisdom that character uses. The Base value of a sin for a level is displayed in the table below.

A mage should have roughly 200 points in his Path to wisdom, although this might differ slightly from character to character. The base value of each paradigm is 191 points, being slightly cheaper as it's already a formalized path with its own steps to wisdom. Altering the Path should make it slightly more expensive.

Values of Sins
Wisdom Value
10 1
9 2
8 3
7 5
6 7
5 9
4 12
3 15
2 18
1 22

The value of a sin is also based upon the size of the group that the sin applies too

Size Value Example
All +0 All sentient beings
Few +3 All supernatural beings, mortals only
One +6 Werewolves, vampires

All added sins are added at their Base Level. A sin moved to "0" is removed from the list. There must be at least 1 sin at each level of your Path to Wisdom.

magic

You can of course influence you Wisdom by using magic. Mind is the easiest way to do this.

Ruling: Shift a sin one step up or one step down. Weaving: Alter sin slightly. Making: Create an entirely new sin. Unmaking: Remove a sin from the list.
